Blog Post #2 - Film Editing Project

I worked with Reese Gardner for the film editing assignment. For the filming part of our assignment I was the one that filmed our project. Reese's role was acting and editing the project. I filmed on Sunday, Dec 13, she edited it later that day and we uploaded the final product on Thursday, Dec 17. This assignment as a whole was not difficult, we are new to filming and editing and we are finding it very fun. During this assignment we worked with different types of editing and using our knowledge on filming from past lessons. Working hands-on really gave me a better understanding of what we learned in class. I am very excited to use all my knowledge I've learned in my final project for the class.

In this example of jump cut the man changing his appearance. The transitions between shots are very abrupt and not smooth. The reason they used this technique of editing is to show his actions are frantic in a way.
This is an example of freeze frame where quicksilver is running around and fighting the other men. This type of editing freezes everyone in frame, in this scene everyone is "frozen" as quicksilver is the only one in movement. This type of editing was used to show that quicksilver is so fast that everything around him freezes when he runs.
This example of cutting on action is of the two fighting. This technique of editing gives a smooth transition of different angles within one action scene. They used this to show different reactions and movements of the characters within the scene
Out of these examples of match cut, the graphic match cut is comparing blood to ketchup. The purpose of this is to make a connection between the blood and the ketchup. They look similar so it creates a smooth transition from shot A to shot B.
In this scene they used the crosscutting editing technique to show action in two different location. This scene cuts from action in location A to action in location B. In this scene it cuts back and forth of the fight in the hotel and the car chase helps create suspense and keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
This scene where when he eats this dish it takes him back to a childhood memory is an example of the flashback type of editing. This memory happened in the characters past to show the viewers that is brought him back to his childhood. When he smiled and continued to eat it, it shows the viewers that it was a happier time and that he liked the dish.
