Blog Post #15 - CCR Script

Hello, my name is Lizette Nieves and this is my Creative Critical Reflection/CCR for my AS level media studies final project. For my final project I had to create the intro of a film, in which I got to pick the genre and what the story was about. I enjoyed the fact that we had a lot of creative freedom, however, it was hard picking what I wanted my story to be about. After changing my idea once, I filmed and decided I didn't like the story I created, so I scratched that and then I came up with Growing Pains. Growing pains is a coming-of-age film about the life of Cora. In my final cut I didn't get very much backstory on Cora... I wish I could have done more than 2 minutes, so I could go into more depth about her character. My main character, Cora, is actually kind of based on someone I know in real life. Their mother wasn’t always there for them and their siblings. So, they had to grow up being very indep[]endent, they also have a very close relationship with their siblings. This I did portray in the childhood memories. We start off with a childhood memory, which I did get to represent the fun and freedom of childhood. I could also show the love and sisterhood. I was worried about working with children, because what if they didn't do what I wanted them to do or they just refused to do it. However, it was not like that at all! I really enjoyed working with Bailey and Kylie. They were very corruptive. I didn’t have them do much acting; I remember in the scenes when they are playing tag, I just told them to run around and actually play tag. Interview with Bailey (and kylie): -This is Bailey, she plays the younger Cora. (and this is kylie, she plays younger Eleanor) -What was your favorite thing about filming? -What would you say was your favorite clip to film? -Would you want to be in anymore of projects in the future? My personal favorite thing about shooting with them was in the one scene where I told them to run from the camera. They held hands without me asking, which I thought was so adorable and added so much to their bond I wanted to portray in my final cut. Working with the dog was not hard, but that’s a whole other story! For my project, I did pick the coming-of-age genre, I portrayed one major convention of the genre. This convention was the growth of the character. I know it's just the introduction, so I couldn’t go more into depth. However, my film is about a girl, Cora, and her life with an absent mom and a dad that passed away. She had to grow up faster than her friends and had to take care of her sister. If I had more time I would have went into more depth about her and it relates with people that had to grow up with absent parents. At the end of the intro, she is leaving home, and I wanted to add different tones to the different times in her life. The childhood memories were bright, while when she is older its gloomy. This represents that her childhood self was happier than she is now. I wish I would have had an older version of her sister waving, showing that she was leaving her behind. My targeted audience was teenagers and young adults, because they would more likely related to my story. If my film intro was distributed as a real media product it would be distributed in theaters and on streaming sites. Especially teenagers and young adults now are more likely to watch a movie on their phone instead of going to the theater. I was familiar with filming and editing before this project. I create home videos/vlogs of thing I do with my friends and post them on YouTube, so we could always go back and watch our memories. I recorded it all on my phone and I used iMovie to edit my project. I developed the skill of working with adding sounds, which I haven’t done before. I have added music, but nothing like car sounds or walking. That was a cool experience and was fun recorded the sound then adding them in my project. I recommend iMovie to anyone who is new and want an app that easy to edit on!
